A Steam Summer Repeat

Another year goes by, and so does another Steam summer sale. And so does another post about another Steam sale. Today is the last day, and this year felt like a disappointment because (a) the games that were on sale were mostly the same games that went on sale throughout the rest of the year and (b) I bought a lot of the games I wanted when they went on sale earlier. There were, of course, a ton of games marked down 33% the whole time, but I didn’t go for any of them.

Here is my haul.

Santa Went Nuts and Bought Himself Toys Instead

Thanks to Steam, the Christmas budget was tight this year. (I’ll get you presents next year, Babe, I promise.) But who in their right mind can pass up these ridiculous sales? First, there was the Summer Sale. Then they repeat the glory with a holiday sale.

Why do you do this to me, Steam? Don’t you know that I cry while I hit the Purchase button? And don’t you know that I will probably never play half of these games? Of course you do.

  • December 20 – Battlefield Bad Company 2, $6.79
  • December 20 – The Deus Ex Collection, $2.99

Activate The Three Artefacts And Then Leave

The screen is a vast, white expanse of nothing. Looking around you see a fuzzy sphere in the distance with what appears to be an opening or depression. As you move closer, the sphere grows but never quite loses that hazy quality. Then it hits you, the white noise. As you move closer to the sphere it grows louder and louder. Finally, you enter the sphere.

Man your own battle stations courtesy of Artemis

Anyone who has ever played a space simulator knows that while you’re either flying a small star fighter or commanding one or more starships, you’re almost always playing by yourself (Eve Online being one glaring exception to this). What if that were not the case? What if you could gather up several of your friends and their laptops and recreate your own Kobayashi Maru? Now you can thanks to the recently released Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator.

Steam Summer Sale: The Aftermath

Now that the dust has settled, the children have stopped weeping, and we’ve started the process of replacing our soiled underpants, let’s take a look at the damage I suffered through the Steam Perils of Summer Sale.

  • June 23 – Counter-Strike: Source, $6.80 (Even though this occurred before the sale, the game went for the same price during the sale a few days later)
  • June 24 – Commandos Pack, $5.09 (This went a few days later for $3+change. Damn you Steam!)
  • June 24 – FarCry, $6.69
  • June 24 – RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum, $10.19
